A massive housing program, promotions for black workers, quality integrated education and greater inter-racial understanding between whites and blacks were among the seven goals presented at the Tri-County Urban League’s third annual meeting.
More black jobs in Peoria’s construction industry was one of the major areas of improvement spotlighted by Frank Campbell, the executive director of the Tri County Urban League.
“We’re going to see blacks in the building trades here in large numbers,” he stated to the crowd at Manual High School.
He went on the address the hope of overcoming discrimination in apprentice programs, adding “We’d like to see trade unions use as much imagination to get us in as they’ve used to keep us out.”
